Please donate to the benefit for Ty Patrick Flood

Ty Patrick Flood is a local 10-year-old suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As this fatal genetic disorder has progressed, the Flood family has been faced with financial and physical burdens at home.

As active members of the community always helping families in need, Timothy and Beth Flood now need our support.

Their home requires substantial modifications to make it wheelchair accessible and Ty is in need of a suitable vehicle that can safely transport a motorized wheelchair.

After leaving her employment to attend to Ty's needs, as well as to care for his younger sisters, Beth and her family need the assistance of the community they love.

Help us support Ty and his family by bringing your change to our 110 Hillside Avenue Store on Friday, July 10th. We will match a portion of the coins counted at our Penny Arcade to help the Flood family out in their time of need.

Flowers for Jericho Turnpike

 Flower Baskets for Jericho Turnpike

Michael Jakob and Ron Keats, visited with the Superintendent of Buildings Steve Siwinski and Village Trustee Jim Rhatigan at the building department just after the shipment of flower baskets were delivered.

The baskets are now lining Jericho Turnpike and Tulip Ave and are sponsored by the Floral Park Chamber of Commerce.

The flowers, along with our banners, will make the main thoroughfare through Floral Park much more inviting than it has been in the past.

We are thrilled to be making a difference in the beautification of our village.

Presidents Message | April 2015

Happy Spring to All

We are all getting ready to head back outside, start planting and enjoying the sunshine. The winter was nasty but your chamber of commerce folks never rested. We are in the middle of multiple projects for our members and village.

Mildred Tassone of The Island's Home Team has been working with our webmaster, Stephanie Larkin of Red Penguin Solutions to prepare our new administrative/finance/membership and web back end system for full functionality. This is a huge undertaking and a very important one for our members. It will allow for more effective communications, better invoicing, streamlined membership administration and so much more. We are extremely grateful for their work and especially Mildred's tireless and daily efforts to get this done.

Currently, it is now connected to our website and needs additional modification for a complete data transfer from the old system. Our intern from Floral Park Memorial, Jenny Seuling is helping us amend that data and the web will be up to date shortly.

Chamber Scholarships

Each year our chamber sponsors a High School Scholarship program and Elementary School Essay contest. This year we will be awarding two $500 scholarships to Student residents of the Village of Floral Park. We will also be awarding one student from each of our elementary schools for the top essay in that school. Terry Whalen of The Sterling Sign Company chairs this program and has sent out the applications to our schools.  The applications are also available on our website at floralparkchamber.org/programs-events/scholarships.

2015 Belmont Stakes

We are all looking forward to our 2015 Belmont Stakes Festival and Street Fair.  Stephen Wickes of One Sound Label is organizing the event with the support of our friends at NYRA and the Village of Floral Park. Please note that this year's event will take place on Sunday June 7 from 2 PM to 7 PM on Tulip Ave.

Consider being a VENDOR at the Fair and get your business exposed to our neighbors. Contact Stephen at 516.351.2350 today as space is limited.

Surely, it will once again be a feast and fun fest for all ages with plenty of food, music, entertainment, vendors and rides. Join us as we celebrate our village and the fabulous Belmont Stakes.

It is membership time.  If you haven't yet sent in your membership renewal, please do.  If you are not yet a member, contact me and we can talk about why you may want to be.  We do appreciate your support.

Have a wonderful Spring.

TNH-BTDC FREE March 20, 2015 Breakfast Seminar - Affordable Care Act - Part II: One Year Later

TNH-BTDC FREE March 20, 2015 Breakfast Seminar - Affordable Care Act - Part II: One Year Later
Dear Past BTDC Seminar Attendee:

On Friday, March 20th, from 8:00am to 10:00am, the Town of North Hempstead Business & Tourism Development Corp. is hosting a free two hour presentation on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at the Harbor Links Club House, One Fairway Drive, Port Washington.

In March 2010, President Obama signed into law the Affordable Care Act which was ratified by the Supreme Court in 2012.

In September 2013, the BTDC held its 1st breakfast business seminar on the tax implications and benefits of the Affordable Care Act (for power point presentations and links visit http://www.btdc.biz/AffordableCareAct.html).   A lot has transpired since…

Compliance criteria and penalties have been delayed, grace periods have been extended and the administration of the Health Care Act continues to evolve.  We strongly believe the North Hempstead business community needs to be pro-actively updated on the law's continuing nuances and changes.

If you own a business with 25 employees or less, your business may be eligible for a Small Business Health Care Tax Credit.

Our returning panel of experts will detail the expanded coverage of benefits, the New York Health Benefits Exchange, options for employers with 50 or less employees and the costs and tax implications for all.

Learn what you can do to reduce your health insurance costs.  As an added bonus, we will be offering one-on-one follow-up sessions to assist you in evaluating your own business's needs.

Please find attached the Seminar's Brochure in a PDF file with the necessary registration form.  Please complete and fax to 516-869-2468 or phone 516-869-7614.

You may also register online at http://www.btdc.biz/OnlineRegistration.asp  (if the link doesn't work, please copy and paste into you internet browser).

We look forward to seeing you there.  And, remember, it is Free!
Sincerely yours,
Roy J. Smitheimer
