What Is The School Tax Relief Program (STAR)?

The New York State School Tax Relief Program (STAR) provides New York homeowners with partial exemptions from school property taxes. If you earn less than $500,000 and own and live in your home, you are probably eligible for the STAR exemption. There are two types of STAR property tax exemptions:

You should register for STAR if you:
  • bought your home after the 2015 STAR application deadline;
  • never applied for the STAR benefit on your primary residence; or
  • received a letter advising you to register for Basic STAR.

President's Message | December 2016

Dear Fellow Board Members & Chamber of Commerce Members:

What a significant year it has been for the Floral Park Chamber of Commerce. We have accomplished much – and we have much to look forward to.

During 2016, we took significant strides is continuing to build our relationship with the Village of Floral Park. I feel we are now truly partners with the Village and that the Chamber has a significant presence in village decisions related to the business community. Thank you Frank Carpaccio and your group for making this happen.

We again ran what I think is one of the best street fairs on LI. We continue to partner with NYRA in making this one of the highlights of the Summer in Floral Park. Steve Wickes and his team should be commended for their great effort.

Membership is the life blood of this organization. In the very capable hands of Joe Sciabica we have been diligent in getting out the message of why the business community and the chamber are a valuable team. I am sure that Joe. Marie Grant, Monica Altman and the rest of the team will continue to get us to our objective of 200 members during 2017.

Our financial picture remains positive. More importantly we have terrific reports and information for the board to use as a guide in helping us make decisions. Not bad having a CPA like Kim Crail to make sure we stay in good financial order.

We continue to add to the beautification of our Village – Banners, Plants and opportunities for more. Thanks to this committee for all they do.

Our communication is also improving. We now are on virtually every social media platform. Our email blasts through Chamber Master are going out regularly. We are blogging and updating our website. Thank you Mildred M. Tassone and Dana DeSimplicis for making our Web offerings get better and better.

Benevolence continues to make sure that our not for profit partners in Floral Park are remembered and cared for by the Chamber. Ron Keats and former board member Terry Whalen lead this on our behalf. Thank you.

I think the highlight of the year for me however was the culmination of years of thought to pull off a Christmas Festival in the Village. Over 1,000 people came to the festival and tree lighting. Another accomplishment for the Chamber partnering with local community groups to put together something special for the village of Floral Park. Thank you Donna Gammarato for this accomplishment.

Everything we do in some way improves the opportunities for business to succeed in Floral Park.
2017 promises to be another great year of opportunity and success.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a
New Year of Joy, Good Health and Great Success!

Thank you, thank you for all you do! I am proud to be a part of this great organization because of each of you.
